Matt & I’s Wedding in Rome

On an evening in Roma, Matt and I got married and it was the dreamiest, most perfect day. This week was a literal dream. From the flights in to the fireball shots smuggled in across international borders to cooking classes to cigarettes on patios, and everything in between the whole week was indescribably amazing. Here is the week of our destination wedding and what we did!

Monday, March 11th

Took the red eye in and landed around 10am. I do have to mention how amazing Delta was on our flight there. Matt and I were lugging around my wedding dress because I did not want to check that fucker (obviously because if they lost my luggage I would have cancelled the wedding) and so it did not wrinkle. We went to the sky lounge with it and were greeted with a bottle of champagne and a cake that read “congratulations.” I am not sure if it was the wedding dress bag that gave it away (it was) or something else but it was so fucking nice that they did that. Not only that, when we landed in Rome the pilot came on the intercom and said “On behalf of Delta we want to wish Matt Jones and Morgan Phelps a congratulations. They are getting married in Rome this week. Please join us in congratulating us.” Then everyone on the plane clapped and I teared up. It was so amazing of them to do. But when we landed we had a recovery day: checked into the hotel with all of our stuff, took a nap, unpacked wedding things and got ready for the week!

Tuesday, March 12th

By Tuesday, a few people had flown in including our families. We met them at the hotel and had a welcome lunch with our families together. Then Matt, Brighton (best friend and bridesman), my brother and I visited the welcome party restaurant location, met the staff and talked about the wedding party on Friday (warning them about how much people were going to drink, lmao). After that, we went to dinner with some friends who flew in and drank too much wine.

Wednesday, March 13th

Wednesday was family day! Matt and I booked an Italian pizza making class for both of our immediate families. It was so much fun! We made our own pizzas, tiramisu, and had beer and wine. It was great quality time with our families before the wedding and just a super fun Italian thing to do.

Thursday, March 14th

Thursday was bridal party day! Matt and I also booked a pasta making class for both of our bridal parties. We made pasta from scratch, had wine and beer and laughed way too much. We were loud (as we always are) and was asked to keep it down multiple times (we didn’t). We had a party of 16 and if you know our friends, you know those bitches are not quiet. After the cooking class everyone came over to our patio and we drank wine and smoked cigarettes because what else do you do in Italy with your best friends?

Friday, March 15th

Welcome party day! Day before the wedding! This morning we got breakfast with our lovely photographers to go over the evening and the wedding day and walk to the venue. Our photographers and videographers are the absolute best in the business and I would hire them over and over and over again. After we met with them, my sister and best friend, Sarah came over to do a trial run for wedding hair and makeup before the welcome party. They made me beautiful and then Matt and I headed to the welcome party area in Trastevere neighborhood in Rome. We took amazing and fun street photos and video and then greeted our wonderful friends and family at the welcome party. We had traditional Italian dinner: cheeses, charcuterie, pizzas, wine, beer and bread. This evening was one of my favorites because of the emotional and loving speeches throughout the night. We had my mom and friends from our bridal party give speeches and I was cryin in the Italian club the whole time. Went home early because we couldn’t be hungover for wedding day!!!

Saturday, March 16th

This day is super hard to put into words because it was so perfect, so here is the video to sum up the joy, the passion, the love and the perfection of this day:
