Honeymoon Itinerary
Two week honeymoon because you only get married twice! I still have dreams of our honeymoon. After our wedding in Roma we bopped around Europe for another two weeks. Here is where we went, what we did (PG version), favorites/least favorites, and links to places we stayed and things we did <3
New York to Rome to Athens to Santorini to Athens to Paris to New York <3
March 17th- Athens
We were hungover. I knew this was going to be the case so I made our flight to Athens, Greece late-afternoon the Sunday after the wedding (good planning Morgan). We were spending 8 days in Santorini and how you get there is either on a hopper plane from Athens (which was 30 min) or a ferry boat ride for 7 hours. If you know me, you know I get motion sickness like a mother fucker so hopper plane it was. Because I did not want to rush Sunday after the wedding and be on two flights in one day and worry about delays or missing a flight, we stayed in a really nice hotel at the Athens Airport and got on the first flight to Santorini Monday morning. The hotel was Sofitel Athens Airport. This hotel was super nice, accommodating and convenient for our flight the next morning. We got room service and enjoyed the luxury robes and slippers, got a good night sleep and simply walked across the street to the airport the next morning.
March 18th- Santorini, Oia
Santorini is insanely beautiful. Our Airbnb was a dream. The view didn’t look real. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. If you ever get the chance to go, you should. It was the most beautiful thing in the world. We went in March which is “off-season” but after talking with the locals, sounds like we prefer the off-season. There were a few families there and us but it was not crowded at all. Locals told us that in May-September you cannot even walk through the streets…… naur thank you. People go in the summertime because of the weather but March weather was amazing. 70’s and 80’s with a slight breeze. I mean, I got a sunburn. It was not as warm as it gets in the summer, nonetheless, we prefer March timeframe!
Everything about our Airbnb was superb. They had prearranged a car to pick us up from the airport and take us into town. Once we arrived, they took care of all of our luggage on the steps and cobblestone. After we explored the town and had brunch we went back to the room and had a lazy day of looking at the view and each other :) That night, we sat on our Airbnb rooftop with a bottle of Veuve and watched the famous Santorini sunset. Then we deleted all of our social media for the week. It was marvelous and I recommend doing that on your honeymoon.
As a wedding gift, Matt got me a scrapbook and about 500 printed photos of us from our relationship so we spent a lot of our honeymoon scrapbooking and reminiscing on our relationship. We scrapbooked every morning with coffee and every night with wine. It was the sweetest thing.
March 19th- Santorini, Oia
Around the corner from our Airbnb was the most amazing, quaint and delicious restaurant, Latza. When I say we ate there every single day……. I am not kidding. We either ate breakfast, lunch or dinner there. It felt like we were eating at our friends house every day. It was so welcoming, homey, and beautiful. The tzatziki, tuna salad and Greek salad was to die for and the Greek beer hits different.
We spent a lot of time here and in our Airbnb on our rooftop or on our patio. We read a lot, scrapbooked more, played NYT crossword together and looked at each other some more while soaking up the sun and enjoying the views. I am not kidding when I say the view is so insane, there is not a lot you want to do except look at the view. We had quite a few lazy days :)
March 20th- Oia/Fira
Ok…… Matt says we never went to Fira…… Which is kind of true because we were only there for 45 minutes…….. LOL. So we took a bus there this morning and the bus driver was ZIPPING around the corners of the mountain and dodging cars and people left and right on these tony roads. I got so motion sick and anxiety that as soon as we got there, I was already not having a good time. On top of that, it was super cloudy this day so you could not really see any views of anything.
Fira is a town about 20 minutes away from Oia that you can get to by crazy bus, taxi, bike or really walk if you are feeling adventurous. My opinion is, Fira is more touristy and less nice than Oia. If you are staying on the island for only a night or a weekend, Fira is better to stay because it is in the middle of the island (so quicker access to other parts of the island) and has cheaper hotel and Airbnb prices.
Like I said, as soon as we got there I felt anxious. We ate breakfast and I begged Matt to come back to Oia, LOL……… When we got back to Oia we went to Lotza! After that we went to a local bodega, supermarket situation and got some wine, feta cheese and watched the sunset from our patio.
March 21st- Oia, Flytographer
Another lazy, beautiful scrapbook day. This evening we took professional photos with Flytographer. If you see my instagram posts of professional photos when we are abroad, it is always flytographer. This is a company that hires photographers in famous cities around the world that you can book to take photos. I have always had a great experience with them. You submit the timeframe and dates you want, obviously the city, and then they send you photographers that are available and you look at each photographer’s portfolio and choose. Then they give you their contact info and link up a place and time. The photos have always turned out incredible for every photographer I have used. I have used it in Rome, Santorini, Paris, and even NYC.
March 22nd- Oia, Boat Day
Ok boat day was fun and wild af……. Our Airbnb hooked us up with a boat day on the beautiful waters of the Aegean Sea. Unlimited drinks GOT US! We were pounding Mythos (best Greek beer, arguably best beer) and swimming in the clear blue waters. The boat dock was not far away from the Airbnb. It was down a hill but they arranged for a car to take everyone. I do not know the name of the boat company because it was booked through our Airbnb. I love group things like the boat because you meet people from all over the world. Boat day was one of my favorite days on our honeymoon (and the drunkest).
March 23rd- Oia, Recover Day
When I say we went hard on the boat day, I am not exaggerating. This day was a recovery day in our Airbnb with a quick trip to their bodega for breakfast, lunch and ordered in dinner. I loved the boat day but I also loved days like this where you are silly hungover. Plus the view, and naps and water and the authentic Greek Gyros made this hangover a great one.
March 24th- Oia, Final Day
We had to go to Latza one last time and say goodbye to all of our friends. I wish we could have spent another week here but we had to start our life of marriage and head to the next part of our honeymoon. Our last day was bittersweet. We packed up, enjoyed one last morning of coffee with insane view, went to Latza for lunch and went to bed early for an early flight the next day. Our Airbnb arranged our car to the airport so that was super nice to not have to worry about that. There are like 10 taxis on the island and I do not know if Lyft exists on that island…….. The next day we were supposed to fly to Athens early :)
March 25th- Santorini Airport
Flight was at 10am. Flight departed at 10pm!!!! LOL!!!!! We spent the whole day in the airport. Two flights before us got cancelled to Athens and ours kept getting delayed every two hours……. So we had airport pizza for 12 hours and just got drunk on Mythos beer again, LMAO. We were sad to miss a day in Athens but we made the best of our time at the airport by getting drunk and watching tik toks and playing games and laughing and talking about our trip. And after a day in Athens, I was glad we spent that day in the airport instead :)
March 26th- Athens, Greece
Ok, before I explain why I did not LOVE Athens, I want to remind everyone that this is my opinion of my trip and experience. And if you love Athens, I think that is great and I would love to hear about your trip. And I will tell you about my trip…. LOL. First, why are there more cats in that city than people? I do not like that. I feel like they were about to turn on us at any time. Second, it is dirty. And I live in New York, so I know dirty. Athens is dirtier and grungy and seemed a little unsafe at all times. I do not really know how to elaborate beyond that but you know when you have a weird feeling in your stomach and you feel uneasy? That is how I felt the whole time in Athens, lol. I really liked our hotel though. We stayed at Niche Hotel in downtown Athens. It was in a great location to everything and made it easy to get around to see all of the historic sites. Matt loved the historic sites, which are really beautiful and cool but that is also why everyone else and their mom is in Athens….. So every single touristy place was super crowded (the touristy places were touristy? Wow Morgan). The architecture and old ruins were beautiful but when I found out majority of them were replicas and not the real thing, I thought ok what is the point….. Some really are replicas because they would have deteriorated by now……. Ok.
My top two favorite things about Athens. This restaurant: Zillers. And this bar: Clumsies, the Room. Best meal and best cocktail in Athens. I got the Greek Salad martini and it was UNREAL. It seriously tasted like a greek salad and I do not know how they did it or how to explain it but it was probably top 4 cocktails of my life….. And I have had some cocktails in my day.
March 27th- Paris
There was not a direct flight from Athens to JFK during this time of the year so we had a layover in Paris for a few hours at first. But if we are going to have a layover in Paris, we are GOING to have a layover in Paris so we extended the honeymoon for another four days in Paris. We have been to Paris about three times before and we are obsessed. Matt used his credit card points to book us at a nice ass hotel: Madam Reve. It was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in, in my life. Because it was so late when we landed and we were exhausted, we ended up getting dinner downstairs at the hotel, which was wonderful.
March 28th- Paris
We slept in and enjoyed a boujie room service breakfast. We had a balcony so we ate out there. I had a towel on my head and my Prada sunglasses ON! I was being extra af. After breakfast we got ready and went to my favorite bookstore in Paris, Shakespeare & Co (If you go and read my favorite in Paris blog, all of my favorites are there). After bookstore we headed over to Cafe de Flore (my favorite cafe). We had champagne and caviar and sat next to the writer of the Saw movies. Matt and I were talking about best movies of all time and he joined our conversation and then he told us he wrote all the Saw movies. I didn’t believe him at first but there is a thing called Google and turns out, he was telling the truth. He was so nice and it was wonderful meeting him. After lunch we fucked around and went to Prada!!!!!!! They gave us champagne and I bought sunglasses and a purse and that is all I will say about that.
After Prada, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for photos. We took photos with Flytographer again. We took the photos in the Montmartre art district which was super unique and we have never really spent a lot of time there. The photos turned out amazing, as they always do with Flytographer. After a glass of wine, we headed back to our hotel room for my favorite French dinner: McDonalds and a bottle of Veuve Cliquot.
March 29th- Paris
After a glass of champagne and a croissant for breakfast, we went to my favorite Paris museum, Centre Pompidou. I love this museum not only because of the art but because of the amazing views of Paris and the restaurant at the top floor. We stopped in the restaurant for a glass of Veuve and a snack and then explored the city a little more before we headed back to our hotel and got ready for our bug dinner with our favorite….. GUY SAVOY!!!!!!!!! Guy Savoy in Paris is the best meal I have ever had in my life. Matt and I are big fans of his Las Vegas restaurant and when we came to Paris for the first time in 2022 we had to try his top restaurant and we were hooked. The whole experience is so unreal. He greets all of his guests at the door and each course is tailored with such perfection, taste and style. So naturally for our honeymoon, we had to come back. We got to see our guy, Guy again. He is so funny and fun.
March 30th- Paris
Last morning in Paris. Sad face. We got a quick breakfast and did some last minute shopping at this super cool thrift store (Kiliwatch). Matt got a nice ass Burberry coat and I got some cute tank tops. That store is amazing and such a vibe. You should go if you like thrift shopping.
Then we headed to the airport to head back home. This honeymoon was incredible to say the least. It was a perfect month with the wedding and honeymoon hopping in Europe. I cannot wait to do it again :)
