NYC Weekend Itinerary for You & Your Mom!
The month of January is the cheapest month to visit NYC and there are almost no tourists- it is a win win! My mom came to visit me for a weekend this month and we had a blast! Here is what you should do in a weekend in NYC with your mom!
$$$- price range
RES- if you should make a reservation or buy a ticket in advance
Friday:
6:30pm: Dinner at Barbetta! Barbetta is a hidden gem. It is an old Italian restaurant in a brownstone in midtown off of Broadway. The service and ambiance is everything! It is so old Italian and NYC vibe. It is the perfect place to grab dinner before any Broadway show $$, RES
8pm: Go see Wicked on Broadway! One of the best shows on Broadway. Arguably could be the best show on Broadway. It is a classic and a fun one to see with your mom especially if you loved the Wizard of Oz growing up $$, RES
11pm: If you and mom are down for a nightcap you should grab a drink at Sardi’s. Sardi’s is a super old bar where they have cartoon sketches of every famous person that has ever eaten there. It is very mafia vibe. Go to the upstairs bar to grab a drink! There is a fun view of Times Square and vibes are New York City, baby! If you don’t want a drink then get a cheesecake at Junior’s! Or be crazy and do both! $$
Saturday:
9am: Grab a latte and breakfast at my favorite cafe in Manhattan, News Bar Cafe. They have been open since 1994 and have the best food and coffee. It truly is a special cafe $
10:00am: Take a stroll around the famous Strand Book Store $
10:30am: Head down south a few blocks and spend the afternoon shopping in SoHo. Some of my favorite stores down there are Aritzia, Birkenstock, Rag & Bone but there are so many. Honestly, too many to hit all in one day. But even the people watching in SoHo during shopping hours is so fun and entertaining FREE-$$$
12pm: You have to have a mother/daughter afternoon getting tea! My favorite tea salon is Lady Meindl’s. It is so fabulous with unlimited tea options, cutie cocktails and the best finger sandwiches, scones, and mini desserts. It is in a brownstone and the inside is just so beautiful $$$, RES
2pm: After afternoon tea, head over to Bathhouse Flatiron. Bathhouse is exactly that- multiple baths with three heat types: room temp, hot tub and ice bath. They also have four different saunas and steam rooms. All of this is included in a day pass that you can stay as long as you want, all day if you want. You can add a massage if you would like when you book your reservation. This place is SO relaxing and magnificent. It is perfect for a Saturday in the busy city. Don’t forget your bathing suit for this one! $$, RES
5pm: Head back to hotel to get ready for dinner!
7pm: Dinner at Robert. It has a fabulous view of Central Park and the Upper West Side, located in Columbus Circle. Get your heels on ladies! This place is nice! Treat yourselves!!! When you make your reservation ask if you can have a table with a view because you are celebrating something $$$, RES
9pm: After dinner, head over to Dizzy’s for some amazing jazz! It is the best jazz in the city. It is also in Columbus Circle but in a different building as dinner with the same amazing views though. They are literally across the street from each other. The jazz and vibes here are amazing $$, RES
11pm: Looking for a night cap? You should run over to the Plaza bar for a drink before they close at 11pm. The Plaza is always a good idea and so beautiful and you just feel classy and New York af there!!! $$
Sunday:
9:30am: Head up to the Upper East Side for brunch at the Penrose! The Penrose is an UES staple and has incredible brunch, cocktails and vibes. If you get there at 9:30am-11am you won’t need a reservation. The burger is the best. The avocado toast is the best. Do not forget the tater tots! I love the Penrose so much, I always take everyone here, especially mom!!! $$
12pm: Spend the rest of the afternoon either at the MET or the Guggenheim. I personally like the Guggenheim more than the MET. Mainly because the interior is so unique and the art they have there is more abstract and unique. The MET is a staple though, so up to you. Both are in the UES $, RES
2pm: Take a lovely afternoon stroll through Central Park before heading back home! FREE
